Tapeworms: There are several different species of tapeworms that attach themselves to your pet’s intestinal tract. Tapeworms are most accurately diagnosed by finding segments that look like grains of rice or seeds on your pet’s rear end, in the feces, or where your pet lives or sleeps. Tapeworm infestations rarely cause sickness in your pet and do not cause them to lose weight. Also, contrary to popular belief, dogs do not scoot because of tapeworms.

The most common tapeworm in pets rarely causes infections in children and does not cause severe disease. However, tapeworms found in dogs or cats may cause severe illness in humans, but luckily, they are uncommon in the United States.
