Roundworms: Roundworms are the most common parasites in our patients. Adult roundworms live in the intestines of dogs and cats. If there are not large numbers of parasites, the patient may exhibit no symptoms. However, pets with significant roundworm infections, especially puppies, show diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, dull hair, and a potbellied appearance. In addition, dogs may cough if the roundworms move into the lungs. Cats will frequently vomit adult roundworms.

Roundworms can affect children more commonly than adults and occur upon ingesting larvated eggs from a contaminated environment following dirt-eating. Eggs in the soil survive and remain a problem for years! In addition, roundworms can migrate to the eyes and cause blindness in children.
