Oncology

“Is it a tumor or not?”

Our focus at Rainbow City Pet Clinic is to provide you with an accurate diagnosis, discuss all the various treatment options, and ensure that all of your questions are answered when your pet is presented with a possible cancer diagnosis. Once your pet has been diagnosed with cancer, it can be one of the most disheartening and devasting things to hear.

Our oncology services include:

  • Bloodwork
  • Diagnostic imaging such as radiographs and ultrasound
  • Tissue biopsy or needle aspiration and cytology
  • Nutritional support
  • Staging
  • Chemotherapy administration
  • Surgery
  • Follow-up examination for remission

Our veterinarians will customize a treatment plan for your pet and also provide you with the emotional support and compassion to help guide you and your family through this difficult time. Depending on the type and location of your pet’s cancer, one or an integration of treatments may be recommended. If a referral is necessary, we will facilitate getting your pet to the best care possible.

Warning signs of oncology:

  • Swelling or lumps that grow steadily
  • Weight loss
  • Frequently vomiting or diarrhea
  • Deceased appetite or difficulty eating
  • Blood discharge or bad odor coming from the mouth or nose
  • Persistent lameness
  • Deceased activity or acting lethargic

Our veterinarians recommend spay and neuter for all canines and felines to reduce the risk of mammary and testicular cancer. Our veterinarians are aware of certain breed predispositions for cancer and will make recommendations for screening to have a better opportunity of detecting cancer in its early stages.
