An endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure using a flexible tube with a tiny camera fastened to the scope. The endoscope is inserted into your pet’s mouth and passed through the esophagus into the stomach, all while your pet is under anesthesia. Although anesthesia is used during the procedure, the recovery is relatively quick and pain-free.
The internal view allows our veterinarians to screen for abnormalities in your pet’s esophagus, stomach, and intestinal tract and to biopsy both normal and abnormal tissues without performing surgery. However, an endoscopy may be recommended if your pet shows clinical signs of IBD (vomiting and diarrhea), problems swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or for removing a foreign object that your pet may have ingested.
